It's Our Pleasure to Serve Bridgewater and the Surrounding Communities

Bridgewater town and history logo

Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, and West Bridgewater MA make up a tri-town area in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. This beautiful region is conveniently located just 25 miles south of Boston and 35 miles east of Providence, RI, making it a popular destination for people who want to live close to the city without giving up the space and comfort of a more suburban lifestyle.

A convenient location isn't the only thing that makes the tri-town area a wonderful place to live. Bridgewater, E. Bridgewater, and W. Bridgewater are also home to many thriving local businesses, top-performing schools, and beautiful parks. We're proud to be the go-to dumpster company for homeowners and business owners across these three communities.

Bridgewater's Early Days

Bridgewater and the surrounding towns have a fascinating history that dates all the way back to the colonial days. In other words, Bridgewater was already a thriving township well before the Revolutionary War and the establishment of the United States of America as a free country.

Initially, the area that now encompasses Bridgewater,
East Bridgewater, and West Bridgewater was a part of Duxbury, which was established in 1645 by purchase from local Native Americans. Just 11 years later, Bridgewater established itself as a Township in the Plymouth Colony. When counties were formed in 1685, Bridgewater was among those that joined Plymouth County.

From 1662 to 1798, Bridgewater township expanded significantly by annexation. West Bridgewater became the second of three communities to become officially incorporated as a separate town in 1822. In 1723, East Bridgewater was established as the East Parish of Olde Bridgewater, not becoming officially separated from the town until 1823.

Historical and Contemporary Economy

Throughout the centuries, Bridgewater and the surrounding towns went from being largely agrarian communities to thriving industrial centers. West Bridgewater is thought to have housed the first industrial park in the country, and East Bridgewater was home to the Iron Works, which provided both muskets and cannons to the Colonial army during the American Revolution. The economy of Bridgewater proper was supported largely by the factories located within the town until the beginning of the 20th century.

Now, Bridgewater Iron Works is a registered historical site, and the majority of the factory has been turned into a town park. The boot and shoe factory no longer manufactures footwear, but still houses many businesses and a storage facility. East and West Bridgewater are considered largely as residential communities, and the entire tri-town area is now best known not for industry or agriculture but for the presence of Bridgewater State University.

Although Bridgewater is home to a great number of historical properties, its residents appreciate a thoroughly modern lifestyle. Anyone planning to move to the area and renovate an older home can call Precision Disposal for the dumpster rental Bridgewater residents will need to dispose of construction waste.

We'll be happy to help recent arrivals feel comfortable in their new homes.

Parks and Outdoor Attractions

Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, and West Bridgewater all boast a variety of beautiful parks and outdoor attractions.

West Bridgewater borders the northeast edge of the Hockomock Swamp, and over 125 acres of land in the area is set aside as a wildlife management area.

Known as the Wildlands Trust - Great River Preserve, the area boasts some beautiful scenic views and consists of open fields, woodland ecosystems, and vernal pools. Home to diverse plants and several rare animal species, the Great River Preserve will quickly become every nature lover's favorite place.

East Bridgewater isn't as known for its lush natural lands, but it is home to Sachem Rock Farm.

This historic landmark has plenty of family-friendly trails, educational opportunities, and fun events.

Anyone new to East Bridgewater should check out the farm at least once.

Visiting Sachem Rock can be especially rewarding as an opportunity to give the whole family a break from dealing with all of the hassles of moving, from unpacking to renovating as needed and, of course, finding a dumpster rental East Bridgewater families can use to facilitate the whole process.

In Bridgewater proper, the Stiles & Hart Conservation area runs along the Town River and boasts many trails with equally fascinating flora and fauna, plus plenty of scenic views. This natural area can also be explored by water, offering a fantastic opportunity for summer adventures. Hikers will also love exploring the trails at Bridgewater State Park, although this outdoor attraction is best explored during the dry season as the trails can get quite muddy in the spring.

Finally, outdoor enthusiasts looking for something more involved than hiking will find that recreation opportunities abound at Carver Pond year-round. From fishing, swimming, and canoeing in the warmer seasons to ice skating in the winter, there's always something fun going on.

Annual Events in the Bridgewater Area

Once newcomers start getting settled in, they'll have plenty of time to start checking out local festivals and community events.

What they'll find is that there's so much going on in the Bridgewater area, there will be something for everyone.

While winters tend to be slow, summer and fall bring plenty of opportunities for family-friendly fun.

Each year brings new opportunities for making friends and participating in community life at events like:

  • The West Bridgewater Fall Holiday Craft Fair
  • Christmas on the Common
  • Autumn Fest

Getting Around the Tri-Town Area

Bridgewater is easy to get to and from by train, located as it is on the Middleborough/Lakeville line of the MBTA commuter rail.

People visiting the city can take the T all the way to South Station.

While there aren't any stops in West or East Bridgewater, there are other options for residents of these towns who want to use public transportation.

Bloom Bus Lines operates a commuter service that runs through West Bridgewater and Taunton to Boston and back, for example.

The town of Bridgewater, itself, is considered very accessible to people who prefer to keep things local and run their errands on foot, although West and East Bridgewater are both more spread out. Most people in these largely residential towns commute and run errands by car.

In West Bridgewater, that might mean taking Route 106 east or west to the town center.

MA Route 24 and Route 28 both pass through parts of town, as well.

In East Bridgewater, Route 18 is the major road in and out of the town center. However, Routes 106, 104, 27, 14, and 24 also run through town. Try to get to know these routes because there is no freeway in East Bridgewater, so the state highways are the best way to get to and from neighboring towns.

Bridgewater is considered more accessible by Interstate. There is a one-mile stretch of I495 that runs through the southwest corner of town, where it meets up with Route 24. To get to the surrounding towns, MA Routes 18, 28, 106, and 104 are all helpful to know.

For those who don't want to worry about doing any unnecessary driving, it's helpful to have an
Affordable Dumpster Service in mind to avoid needing to go on repeated runs to the local transfer station.

Renting a dumpster is a much simpler and more cost-effective solution, especially for those who are still relatively new to the area and don't want to learn how to navigate the local roads under stressful driving conditions.

Supporting Local Businesses

Bridgewater's local business community is served by the Bridgewater Business Association (BBA) while East Bridgewater boasts the EBBA.

In both cases, local business owners are getting together to show their commitment to the community and to providing a friendly environment for small businesses.

We work with several members of the BBA and EBBA. If you own a local business, you can
contact us for a dumpster rental MA quote. We'll be glad to add your company to our growing list of happy commercial customers.

Newcomers and long-time residents of the tri-town area, alike, are often looking for ways to support local businesses. We've compiled a short list of just a few top restaurants and shops in the area to get them started.

Where to Shop

For college students and the younger crowd, the Campus Plaza is the go-to spot to shop locally. However, it's certainly not the only place to go in the tri-town area for unique finds. Avid thrifters love the Chic Boutique and Periwinkles Consignment Store in Bridgewater, while those looking for the perfect gift recommend Bee Charmed Gift Shop & Country Store in East Bridgewater. These are just a few examples of the many local shops that visitors and residents alike can go out and enjoy.

Where to Find Local Services

In addition to shops and restaurants, there are plenty of small businesses in the tri-town area that provide necessary services. Shopping locally should extend beyond daily goods to encompass other areas of life, as well. Thankfully, residents have no trouble finding everything from mechanics and bike shops to gyms and spas run by their neighbors close to home.

Buying locally isn't just about getting the best service, although it's certainly the case that locally owned and operated companies tend to treat their customers and clients better. Trusting Plymouth County businesses with providing these and other
services helps the Bridgewater area thrive.
